“Unanswered questions” – Wesley Gibbings reviews “The Challengers” film screening + panel

Wesley Gibbings reviews our new documentary film, “The Challengers”, which was produced for UNHCR with support from the EU in T&T through the Inclusive Cities project.

“The Challengers”, a competitive underdog volleyball club, nurtures community for Venezuelan refugees and asylum-seekers in Central Trinidad. In the film The Challengers, titled the same as the club, we learn about the team’s fight for inclusion, we spend time with a few of the volleyball players at training for their upcoming tournament and get a glimpse into their lives off the court.

This film picks up where Bird’s Eye View’s previous documentary Nearest Neighbours (2019) leaves off, three years after the migrant registration process was initially facilitated by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Following this registration process, we consider the circumstances surrounding the lives and rights of refugees and asylum-seekers in 2022.
